Microplastics Debris Pollution Webinar
February 17, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
Presenter: Dr. Lorena M. Rios Mendoza, Natural Sciences Department/Chemistry and Physics Program, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Microplastic debris is one of the most cited emergent pollutants in the last decade with a potential hazard to aquatic life because of the known potential to adsorb persistent organic pollutants, and they can be easily confused with natural food. Microplastic debris is a complicated issue not just because we do not understand the mechanisms for the negative impacts on different ecosystems and organisms, including humans, but also because of the challenges for their analysis when the particles decrease in size from microplastics to nanoplastics. Unfortunately, there is little information on plastic materials’ composition, distribution, or fate in freshwater ecosystems. Join us to learn more.
This webinar is being sponsored by the Great Lakes Committee.
