SUMMARY:Winter Oilseed Virtual Field Day: Supply Chain and Market Development
DESCRIPTION:Winter camelina (Camelina sativa) and pennycress (Thlaspi arvense) are new winter-hardy annual oilseeds that have great potential for use as a cash cover crop that protects soil and water while also providing economic benefits to farmers in the Upper Midwest. This webinar will provide a 40-minute overview of market and supply chain development for these new oilseeds\, including a panel conversation with industry representatives who are partnering with UMN and AURI to expand production and use of winter camelina and pennycress. Presentations will be followed by a 30-minute interactive question and answer session with a team of UMN and AURI experts \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Soil Health Digital Cafe Series: Cover Crop/Soil Health On-Farm Research Partnership Between UNL and NRCS
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will explain the development of the On-Farm Research Partnership between the NRCS and the Nebraska On-Farm Research Network and how it is used to collect production and soil data from NRCS Soil Health Demonstration Sites across Nebraska. Gary Lesoing will share 3-years of crop yield production data collected from a local project he is involved with and soil data collected by NRCS and a UNL Graduate Student at the site. He will also share some results of cover crop biomass measurements collected at various sites and how this partnership has created a valuable resource. Nebraska Extension\, UNL Horticulture & Agronomy\, and NRCS are partnering together to provide soil health and crop production data for the research database and to share at local field days\, training sessions\, and conferences for farmers\, ag consultants and ag educators in Nebraska. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Working with Neighbors to Integrate Livestock and Improve Soil
DESCRIPTION:Tom’s goal is to improve the soil on his family’s century farm. To do this\, he has been working with neighbors Jim Funke\, Jon Merrill\, and Conner Allender to integrate cattle\, sheep\, and poultry into his cropping system in a variety of ways. They’ve been practicing management-intensive grazing for four years on selected areas.  We’ll see areas where unrolled hay bales were fed prior to cash crop planting and where stockpiled grazing took place. We’ll also see how chickens follow cows\, along with pictures showing where soils that were once poor have become productive again. Not only is Tom seeing life come back to the soil and farm\, he is building community in rural Iowa in the process. \nLearn more and register here.
