SUMMARY:Understanding disparities in farmland ownership
DESCRIPTION:Land is foundational to food production\, and access to land is a critical issue for the next generation of farmers. Yet ownership of farmland in the United States is vastly unequal\, with White people owning 98%. This webinar – the first of two on the topic of land justice – will explore how present day trends in farmland ownership are rooted in colonization\, land appropriation/theft\, discrimination\, and violence. The webinar will also recognize ways in which Black\, Indigenous\, and other People of Color in California have always resisted racism and affirmed lasting ties to the land.
