SUMMARY:Dairy Margin Coverage Decision Making
DESCRIPTION:The Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program is an important risk management tool for dairy producers from the USDA-Farm Service Agency. This voluntary insurance product allows producers to protect against low margins\, specifically\, the difference between the announced All Milk price and the calculated feed costs to produce milk. UW-Madison\, Division of Extension\, is providing dairy producers an opportunity to ensure they are making the correct DMC coverage level decision for their operation. Pre-registration is required by e-mailing to scott.reuss@wisc.edu

SUMMARY:Standard Measurements of Soil Health
DESCRIPTION:Measuring and assessing soil health are critical for understanding how changes in agronomic management practices affect the capability of soil to support cropping systems. In this presentation\, the Soil Health Institute will highlight how the Institute is using data from the North American Project to Evaluate Soil Health Measurements to develop a standard set of measurements for both monitoring and evaluating soil health. The Institute has collected over 30 measurements across 124 long-term agricultural research plots resulting in the analysis of over 2\,000 soil samples. This presentation will focus on how the Institute is classifying soil functioning\, associating specific soil functions with soil health measurements\, and using this new data set to inform measurement selection. \nLearn more here.

SUMMARY:Lessons Learned from Indiana Conservation Cropping Systems On-Farm Soil Health Research/Demonstration Sites
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will discuss the lessons learned by the Indiana Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative (CCSI) in a statewide program to establish soil health demonstration plots on farmers’ fields. In 2012 the CCSI started establishing on-farm trials to test different soil health practices and to use commercial soil health tests to document changes in soil health with time. The farmer cooperators were also a key part of the education/outreach team for field days\, workshops\, and small group interactions with other farmers not yet using soil health practices. This webinar will discuss some of the challenges of this project and some recommendations for future projects with similar goals. \nLearn more here.

SUMMARY:Helping Farmers Help the Land Through Climate Smart-Farming
DESCRIPTION:The climate is changing in different ways across the United States. Participate in this webinar training to learn about how the climate has changed in your area and what that means for farmers and ranchers. This presentation focuses on the 4 ways producers can adapt:\n\n• Assess landscape vulnerability\n• Improve soil health\n• Increase the heath and diversity of biological organisms\n• Conserve resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions\n\nLearn more here.

SUMMARY:Drought Calendars for Specialty Crops
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will highlight a recent project engaging specialty crop growers in the Midwest to better understand the seasonality of their decisions and drought information needs. The project has resulted in graphical decision calendars for grape\, apple\, cranberry\, and irrigated potato production. Decision calendars describe the timing of management practices and decisions that are made throughout crop planting\, growing\, harvest\, and dormant seasons\, along with the climate-related concerns that impact the outcomes of management decisions. Decision calendars can help identify opportunities for inserting climate information into a decision process. We will discuss how decision calendars can be used to communicate and improve the usability of drought/climate monitoring and prediction science. \nLearn more here.

SUMMARY:Soil Health Management Summit
DESCRIPTION:The Soil Management Summit planning committee wants to ensure the health and wellbeing of our participants\, vendors\, and everyone else involved in the summit’s production while maintaining the high standard of programmatic content the event has provided over the years. As the COVID-19 situation has evolved\, we have made the difficult decision that this event will be offered online only. \nThis summit (formerly Conservation Tillage Conference) emphasizes proven farmer experience and applied science. Straight from the fields\, learn how heavier\, colder soils aren’t necessarily the challenge they’re made out to be. Hear from long-time no-till\, reduced tillage\, and cover crop farmers as they share their experiences\, so you can be spared the same hard-learned lessons. \nThe Summit features presentations and Q&A with researchers\, farmers and agricultural advisors\,  information from sponsors\, and conversations with farmers experienced in different soil health practices. \nAttendees who attend the entire conference will be offered CCA continuing education units (CEUs). \nLearn more here.
