SUMMARY:Tracking the Golden-winged Warbler
DESCRIPTION:Birds in North America are facing considerable population decline\, with over half of all species declining in the past half-century. This is particularly true for the Golden-winged Warbler\, a neotropical songbird that has experienced over a 70% population decline since 1966. Due to their imperiled status\, they are currently being considered for listing under the Endangered Species Act. To better understand drivers behind their population decline\, and to aid in giving an informed listing decision\, we have initiated a range-wide collaborative effort to assess annual survival of both males and (the more elusive) females through the use of radio telemetry. Join Emily Filiberti\, a Master’s candidate at the University of Maine\, to learn more about her contribution to this widespread effort through deploying and tracking these NanoTags on Golden-winged Warblers in Oneida County. \nInfo here.

SUMMARY:Climate Readiness Assessment in Monroe County
DESCRIPTION:While climate change is a global issue\, ultimately all climate impacts are local. Climate-mediated weather events are affecting communities across Wisconsin with unique impacts driven by local factors such as topography\, geology\, land use and access to planning and preparedness resources. \nThe 2021 Monroe County Climate Readiness and Rural Economic Opportunity Assessment (CRREOA) was a pilot effort to conduct a rapid\, comprehensive assessment that brought together climate readiness and conservation-based economic opportunities at a county level. This collaborative effort was initiated in Monroe County\, with support from 10 local\, state and federal organizations. Members of the Monroe County CRREOA team will share the results of their assessment and implications for use of local climate assessments in community climate preparedness. \nInfo here.

SUMMARY:State of Organic Seed
DESCRIPTION:Join OSA’s Kiki Hubbard and Jared Zystro\, and host eOrganic\, for a timely webinar on May 17\, 2022. Organic seed represents the first link in the organic supply chain\, serving as the foundation of organic integrity from seed to plate. Every five years\, OSA releases the State of Organic Seed report as a progress report and action plan for increasing the organic seed supply while fostering seed grower networks and policies that aim to decentralize power and ownership in seed systems. OSA recently published a third update to this report. The 2022 report represents 15 years of data that helps the organic community understand trends in organic seed sourcing\, organic seed research investments\, and more. \nInfo here.
