SUMMARY:Invasive Insects: Impacts in Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Insects can cause serious damage by feeding on crops\, and insect species that have been introduced from other countries can often cause the most serious economic damage. This webinar will cover some of the basic biology and ecology of invasive species and explain why they are able to outbreak so severely in new areas. We will also discuss different ways of responding to introductions of new pest species using examples from past introductions as case examples of management methods developed to cope with new pests. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Using Wetlands as Solutions to Reduce Flood Damage Risks in the Lake Superior Basin
DESCRIPTION:To help communities find cost-effective solutions to their flooding and infrastructure problems\, the Wisconsin Wetlands Association (WWA) is aiming to promote and demonstrate the concept of Natural Flood Management (NFM) in the Lake Superior Basin. NFM is a watershed-based approach for implementing ‘slow the flow’ practices that incorporate natural river and landscape processes to store water and limit the erosive energy of runoff. In this presentation\, Kyle Magyera will highlight the work of the interdisciplinary partnership WWA has convened to study the impacts of erosion-induced wetland drainage. He’ll also describe how the partnership is identifying opportunities to reconnect floodplains and restore hydrology in headwater wetlands and streams to build climate-resilient natural infrastructure. SUMMARY:Producer-Led Webinar Series: Alternative Forages
DESCRIPTION:This webinar series\, delivered in a podcast format\, will cover a range of conservation topics that producer-led groups around the state are focusing on. Each webinar will include the farmer perspective and will have time for plenty of Q&A and discussion. \nThis webinar will feature Barry Bubolz\, NRCS Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Coordinator\, who will interview Tony Brey from Brey Cycle Farm LLC. \nGoals of the Webinar Series Include: \n\nFacilitate farmer exchange to problem solve\, try new things and innovate\nProvide space for farmers and partners to ask questions about the DATCP program\nCollect information about what is working\, what is challenging and what practices are being tried\nProvide resources for farmer-led groups\nEvaluate the success of the webinars through surveys and interactive webinars
