Part 2 of this training focuses on: \n\nUnderstanding livestock resource concerns\nSafety around livestock\nHands on comparison of different farm tillage equipment and impact on crop residue\, surface roughness and soil health\nPicking the dominant critical area in a field\nUsing a Clinometer to accurately shoot slopes\n\nFor Ag 101 Part 2\, we will be spending part of the day focusing on livestock production system resource concerns\, spending time in the field viewing various tillage equipment in action (and measuring soil roughness/crop residue)\, and learning how to shoot slopes and determine the critical area for planning on a field.

DESCRIPTION:Basic Ag 101 is designed for new agency staff working with landowners. In part 2\, you will understand tillage equipment and impact on residue and soil. You will see in person the difference between tillage equipment impacts. You will learn about shooting slopes and determining critical areas in a field. This session will develop your understanding of dairy facility components\, from feed storage and feeding systems to manure handling and storage. You will also develop an understanding of risk management in animal interactions\, with tips and tricks for when conservation staff are working near livestock. \nInfo here.

See how different management practices conserve soil and nutrients\, and witness the results in real time with a rainfall simulator. \nGet an earthworm’s view of the field from a soil pit and learn how to assess your own fields’ soil health; participating farmers will also be able to take a free soil-health test kit back to their farm to measure compaction\, infiltration and soil stability\, compliments of a grant. Hear from local farmers about their experiences\, and from Marathon County CPZ about conservation funding opportunities. \nLunch is included in the registration. Pre-registration by October 12 is requested to ensure enough meals and handouts for all participants. \nOnce you register\, you will receive a confirmation email.
