SUMMARY:Soil Water and Nutrient Management Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The 2020 Soil\, Water and Nutrient Management Meetings will be virtual this year due to COVID-19. The meetings will include topics related to the value of soil organic matter and how to build it (Matt Ruark)\, lessons learned about corn nitrogen management in Wisconsin and the Midwest (Carrie Laboski)\, and challenges of liquid dairy manure management in Wisconsin (Francisco Arriaga). Each topic discussion will last 50 minutes with a 10 minute break between each topic. CEUs will be offered in Nutrient Management\, and Soil and Water for Certified Crop Advisers. There is no charge for this event\, but registration is required. There are two sessions to choose from\, both sessions will present the same information. Please choose the one that best fits your schedule. \nMeeting times: \nThursday\, December 3 from 8:30-11:50am\nModerator: Richard Halopka\, Extension Clark County Agriculture Educator \nFriday\, December 4 from 12:30-3:50pm\nModerator: Kimberly Schmidt\, Extension Shawano County Agriculture Educator \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Dairy Margin Coverage Decision Making
DESCRIPTION:The Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program is an important risk management tool for dairy producers from the USDA-Farm Service Agency. This voluntary insurance product allows producers to protect against low margins\, specifically\, the difference between the announced All Milk price and the calculated feed costs to produce milk. UW-Madison\, Division of Extension\, is providing dairy producers an opportunity to ensure they are making the correct DMC coverage level decision for their operation. Pre-registration is required by e-mailing to scott.reuss@wisc.edu

SUMMARY:Nutrient Management Practices and Their Co-Benefits
DESCRIPTION:Nutrient management practices are critical for reducing nutrient loads downstream. But what about the other benefits nutrient management practices provide outside of water quality improvement? Tune into this webinar to hear about the co-benefits of nutrient management practices including pollinator habitat\, carbon sequestration\, and flood mitigation. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Drought Calendars for Specialty Crops
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will highlight a recent project engaging specialty crop growers in the Midwest to better understand the seasonality of their decisions and drought information needs. The project has resulted in graphical decision calendars for grape\, apple\, cranberry\, and irrigated potato production. Decision calendars describe the timing of management practices and decisions that are made throughout crop planting\, growing\, harvest\, and dormant seasons\, along with the climate-related concerns that impact the outcomes of management decisions. Decision calendars can help identify opportunities for inserting climate information into a decision process. We will discuss how decision calendars can be used to communicate and improve the usability of drought/climate monitoring and prediction science. \nLearn more here.

SUMMARY:Just-in-Time Soil Health
DESCRIPTION:There is a lot of focus on soil organic matter levels\, but what if the flow of carbon through the soil is just as important for soil health? What if this flow is more important? Building and maintaining soil organic matter levels can be a long\, slow process. Similarly\, maintaining large warehouse inventory is expensive. In manufacturing\, a cost-cutting concept called just-in-time production allows smaller inventory levels and has been widely adopted. Could the same concept be applied to soil management for just-in-time soil health? \nRegister here.
